Rain Over Blue Flags

Rain over Blue Flags:

16” X 20” Acrylic on Canvas with paint flip

This is an acrylic paint flip on a wrap around canvas.

These blue flags are very meaningful as I would always pic them in spring for my mom.  About 3 or so clicks down the beach where I grew up, was a big marshy field that had definite wetlands.  These blue flags grew wild in that field.  At least back then, these were endangered flowers that you aren’t supposed to pick. But I was taught to be mindful with the roots if I were to pic them.  So, I did.  I would pick as many as I could carry in my arms and would trek them home to her with a big smile.  It was interesting over the years to watch as harvesting in this way helped the patched to grow over the years.    I would take the yelling with no problem, as once I had been properly reprimanded, she would then carefully prepare and arrange them for her enjoyment. She would sit with her cigarette and gaze upon them for hours.  She did a similar thing with lilacs.  It was one of those rare occasions where I could witness her happy.   Mom has been gone for years, when I see blue flags, I always think of her.
